Databases Marketing & Training

Mission
As a task group of the IS SWG, this group of IS and Children's staff members will concentrate on increasing the database usage statistics by 20% for 1) the databases that Lane Libraries purchase from vendors and 2) OPLIN databases (in order by priority).

Meeting Minutes

Tasks to Complete
1. Creating and sending a monthly infomercial to IS and Children's staff by email to promote a particular database and to increase staff's usage and promotion of this database to customers.
2. Plan and conduct two training sessions for IS and Children's staff on a particular database and offer each session at least two different times (morning and afternoon on Monday-Thursday).
3. Develop at least one adult program that promotes a database to customers
4. When the Lane Libraries participate in fairs/expos by having a booth, the group will work with the Head of Public Relations and the IS SWG liaison to find a database that matches that group and will work with Public Relations to create marketing materials for this database (a poster or handouts). If possible, a member of the TWG will participate for part of the time at the expo/fair to demonstrate or train people on the database at the library's booth.
5. Work with Public Relations to develop monthly posters and handouts highlighting a database and posting the information on the Staff Intranet.

Length of this TWG
This group will meet monthly for nine months during the school year (September-May).

Members of this TWG
1 staff member from each IS department from each building location
2 staff members from the Children's departments or Bookmobile (Locations will be drawn randomly from all 4 service points.)
1 IS SWG liaison
Total Members: 6

Chosen by: The Head of Information Services at each location and the Head of Children's Services (at the two drawn locations) will ask staff for volunteers and appoint a liaison for the TWG from their departments.

Evaluation: At the end of nine months, the overall effectiveness will be determined by seeing at least a 20% increase on average in usage statistics for the databases that have been highlighted by the TWG during the nine months. If this increase is not met, the IS SWG will decide how to proceed with the TWG.

Additional Notes: The work of this TWG can be done by staff while they are working on a public desk. This TWG would be an interim step to increase the knowledge of the databases by IS and Children's staff in preparation for the potential change to merit pay which may tie database knowledge to evaluations and to raises in the future. The IS SWG is asking for a task group of IS and Children's staff for marketing and training because extra staff besides the IS supervisors serving on the IS SWG are needed for these important functions for databases.
