Lane Libraries Mission Statement:
To provide and promote library resources to meet the educational, recreational, cultural, civic and information needs of the library’s service area.
Connect to the Online World: Public Internet Access
Residents will have high-speed access to the digital world with no unnecessary restrictions or fees to ensure that everyone can take advantage of the ever-growing resources and services available through the Internet.
Goal: The Community will connect to the extensive resources available online at the Lane Libraries.
Objective1: By 2011, public use of online resources available through Lane Libraries will increase by 10%.
Objective 2: By December 2009, all Information/Children’s Services Staff will be trained on online resources and software available to the community through Lane Libraries.
Create Young Readers: Early Literacy
Children from birth to five will have programs and services designed to ensure that they will enter school ready to learn, read, write and listen.
Goal: Children, parents and teachers will partner with the Lane Libraries, whose staff will provide knowledgeable guidance in the development of early literacy skills.
Objective 1: Teacher/organization partnerships based on the Every Child Ready to Read initiative will increase by 30 collaborations by December of 2011.
Objective 2: All children’s staff will increase their knowledge of the Every Child Ready to Read components demonstrated by incorporating 75% of the ALA ECRR Observation Checklist into customer interactions by the end of 2010.
Satisfy Curiosity: Lifelong Learning
Residents will have the resources they need to explore topics of personal interest and continue to learn throughout their lives.
Goal: The Community will enhance their personal growth, stay well-informed and satisfy their curiosity through Lane Libraries' diverse resources.
Objective 1: Teen participation in library outreach activities will increase by 10% by December 2011.
Objective 2: By December 2010, library customers will receive better service through
one-on-one staff initiated contacts which will increase by 25%.
Objective 3: Attendance at all library programs will increase 10% annually; all programs will be evaluated for their effectiveness in supporting the Lane Libraries mission.
Objective 4: Five new partnerships with schools and/or community organizations will be created each year.
Stimulate the Imagination: Reading, Viewing and Listening for Pleasure
Residents who want materials to enhance their leisure time will find what they want when and where they want them and will have the help they need to make choices among the options.
Goal: The Community's leisure time will be enriched with the Lane Libraries' timely collection of diverse materials and its expert staff.
Objective 1: By December 2009, the library materials collections will be evaluated to identify methods for increasing annual circulation by 15%.
Overall objectives that support multiple goals:
Objective 1: By June, 2009, 100% of new library staff will participate in Lane Libraries’ orientation program.
Objective 2: By December 2010, all staff will receive job appropriate training that will enhance their internal and external customer service skills.
Objective 3: By December 2010, an appealing marketing plan that results in a 15% increase in the number of library cardholders will be created.
Objective 4: The operating revenue and expenditures will balance on an annual basis.
